While we consider ourselves one of the last bastions of old world live steam, we are not totally adverse to new thinking, some of it extreme. Here are some recent projects that spiralled out of control on their way from the drawing board to reality.

geezer gassers visit c & h

As if railroading mogul Steve Cregut doesn't have enough to do as chief executive of the C & H, in his spare time Steve assumes the dragster jockey personna affectionately known as "packrat" with the geezer gasser drag racing club.

Crosley Loco under construction

A while back, Steve's fellow geezers paid a visit to the C & H layout. It evidently made a strong impression as they went back to their well equipped machine shops at geezer headquarters with some pretty wild ideas about trains and dragsters.

The result of this unlikely (and downright scary) fusion of dragster and railroading technology is the C & H Crosley custom concept Loco. These guys are clearly out to win no matter what the project, and this hybrid machine is no exception.

While an innocent looking diesel/electric locomotive from all outward appearances, this tricked out, insanely overpowered vehicle brings new meaning to the expression "like riding on rails". For the uninitiated, this is a car engine with a stick shift transmission folks!.

Naturally it sports custom made disc brakes on the drive shaft to stop the crazy thing (hopefully).

C & H railtruck roadtest

Not to be outdone, Dale Schafer holed up in his machine shop and emerged with the C & H custom concept railtruck. This baby sports a Briggs & Stratton engine with a centrifugal clutch. I would have to have the braking system explained to me a little better before I would venture to get on it!
